Year 2000 Compliancy
Many visitors to this Site will be aware of the recent hype about the Year 2000. Despite my use of the word "hype",
the problem is a serious one which will affect computer users worldwide. This relates to the ability of your computer & software
to support the date format change from 1999 to 2000. Private Practice Manager is fully Year 2000 compliant, being one of the first medical
accounting packages specifically developed with this in mind.
As Background Information the Year 2000 problem relates to the way in which dates are stored.
- In older software the date is stored with a 2-digit year ie. 1998 = "98".
- This is not a problem while the use of a software package remains within a single century.
- However, when 2000 arrives, such a package would record the date as "00", this equating to "1900"
This means that, the current date being 1900, all previous transactions would effectively have been entered in the future
eg. "98". Similarly, the system would believe that your patients had not yet been born. These are just two simple
examples of what is a very complex problem !!
Private Practice Manager, however caters for a full 4-digit year, storing 2000 as "2000", thus preventing the problem.
